American Quilter's Society Recognizes Barn Quilts!!

The American Quilter's Society chose this page as Blog of the Week and posted to their Facebook page. I am so thrilled! Love to have more and more cloth quilters becoming aware of barn quilts.

Of course, I tend to think that everyone knows about barn quilts. After all, everyone that I know is more than aware of them!

I got to thinking of some barn quilts I have seen that, without the barn in the photo, could pass for cloth quilts. Each of these is a painted quilt!

I can't help wondering whether these were more difficult to paint than they would have been to piece.

So-- What do you think? How many of these quilts pass muster?

  1. I love the one with the pins in it. I saw this in Mary Jane Butters' magazine. I think some school children did it?

(I love Mary Jane's work too; I wonder if she has a barn quilt on her farm or mill yet ear Moscow, Idaho?)

Denise and I just visited Ailsa Craig, Ontario, Canada where they are getting ready to host a group of Quilters from the Netherlands in May. The folks from Holland will also be able to take in the Canadian Quilting Association conference which is in London the same week.

  2. Yes, that one was done by a group of homeschooled kids in Kankakee, MI. Great group-I enjoyed meeting with them. They did three quilts but are now all off to college! No, I don't think MaryJane has a barn quilt yet, but that doesn't mean that she won't!

Look forward to meeting the folks from Holland in May!
